In the lead up to the third round of negotiations with the BDE private sector waste employers' organisation, services union ver.di is organising warning strikes and a rally outside the head offices of the SITA Deutschland company. The union wants a 7% pay increase in a 12-month agreement which it sees as crucial for this low-paying sector where pay is lagging behind similar jobs in the public sector.

Warning strikes help win higher pay rise for waste workers
After five bargaining rounds and warning strikes by members, services union ver.di has secured a pay increase for workers in the private waste sector. There will be a €50 lump sum to cover the first three months of 2015 and then a 3% pay increase from 1 April 2015 and then 1.8% from 1 January 2016. The agreement runs until 31 December 2016. Warning strikes help deliver good pay deal in waste sector
The ver.di trade union reports a very positive result for employees of the Alba waste and cleaning company based in Cottbus and Lausitz in Eastern Germany. Workers will see a pay increase of at least €335 a month as of 1 January 2025 but with an initial increase of €205 backdated to 1 January 2024. The union says this corresponds to a 14.47% pay increase overall with employees with more than six years of service in pay group 4 getting €432 more, ending up with a gross salary of €2959.53 – an effective increase of 17.09%.
