The CGT-FNME and FO-FNEM energy federations are planning strikes and other action on 29 January in protest at the law on energy transition. This follows an initial day of action on 4 November. The unions argue that while the law appears to have good intentions in relation to green energy, it conceals further steps towards liberalising the sector with the threat to jobs and pay and conditions that this would involve.

Energy unions plan further action over EDF restructuring
The four unions representing workers in France's main energy company EDF - FNME-CGT, FNEM-FO, CFE-CGC and CFDT Chimie Energie - are continuing their joint actions in protest against the plans for major restructuring and privatisation of the company. After the widely supported strike action on 19 September, the unions have launched a petition and are planning a further day of strike action on 17 October.
Nurses plan further action
The INO nurses' union and Psychiatric Nurses' Association are planning to continue action in support of their claim for higher pay and shorter working hours. The unions expressed disappointment that health service employers failed to respond to the unions' willingness to negotiate over far-reaching modernisation as part of a deal over working time. Meanwhile the SIPTU general union confirms its support for the claim for shorter working hours although it is not involved in the current industrial action. Civil service union plans further action over pensions
Following a ballot of its members in March, PCS, the main civil service union has called a national strike on 10 May coordinated with other unions in the public sector with further national action coordinated with other unions at the end of June. The union is also planning regional protests and rallies on 10 May and action short of a strike including an overtime ban from 11 May until the end of June. Read more at > PCS (EN)
