Union condemns additional work for tax employees

The FSP-UGT federation has attacked the Finance Ministry for using tax agency staff to work additionally for the regional economic administrative courts. The union points out that public sector workers have seen their purchasing power fall by around 30% as a result of pay cuts and freezes. Jobs have also been cut and further pressure on staff created by non-replacement of retired workers. And now, rather than offering new jobs and help reduce the 25% unemployment rate, the Ministry of Finance is getting existing tax workers to fill the gap by taking on additional work. The FSP-UGT sees this as an important area of work to ensure taxes are collected and so it needs the proper level of staffing to do it.

Unions criticise government's block on additional pay for more and better work

Unions organising in the state sector - JHL, JUKO and Pardia - have criticised new guidelines from the government that call for a halt to any work reorganisation that would lead to more demanding tasks and, thus, higher salaries. The unions say that the decision goes against collective agreements that say that salaries must rise when work becomes more demanding and personal competence grows. They also argue that the policy contradicts government aims to reward skills and performance. Additional pay rises for 17000 healthcare workers

Austria

The public services union younion has secured an additional EUR 39 million on the paybill of 17000 workers employed by health institutions in Vienna. This comes on top of the general pay rise for public sector workers. Care assistants, qualified care workers and senior care staff in employment before 1 January 2018 will see an increase on basic pay and will have a new pay structure. There will also be pay supplements for midwives, various technical occupations and assistant doctors, again employed before 1 January 2018. The details of the changes are still be worked out but will be backdated
