(6 November 2019) EPSU’s executive committee expressed its deep condolences for the three firefighters who lost their lives on the night of November 5 in an explosion in the province of Alessandria (Italy). EPSU’s thoughts go out to all those who have been affected by this serious accident, to their families and colleagues, and we hope for a speedy recovery for those who were wounded.

EPSU has, over the years, repeatedly denounced the deterioration of working conditions and the inadequacy of the wages of workers who are at the forefront of ensuring safety and relief for citizens. As always, we are at your side in the battle for guaranteeing decent working conditions and appropriate safeguards for workers.

On 12 December the EPSU Fire Brigade network will meet in Rome and will use the occasion to discuss how to advance the demands for decent working conditions and safeguards for the Firefighters. An EPSU delegation will also be present at the FP-CGIL national firefighters assembly on 13 December in Rome to bring  solidarity in person.
