EPSU supports striking workers EDF in Brussels

(Brussels, 19 September 2019) A delegation of EPSU and the Belgian union Gazelco took the protests of the French energy unions to the French permanent delegation in Brussels. We showed our solidarity with the French unions in EDF, a dominantly state-owned company. The unions went on strike 19 September. They object to the dismantling of this company. It threatens the public service missions. The unions including CGT-FNME, FO-FNEM and CGC-CFE have pledged to campaign against the plans. The EPSU delegation continued its action in front of Luminus, the Belgian daughter of EDF. The unions in this company are facing problems with their social dialogue from a management that believes dialogue is a one-way street.

The protests took place on the same day as EPSU released a major report on the failure of liberalised energy markets. It underlines how the neo-liberal policies to break up companies can backfire.
