The dispute over the 2008 pay increase for local government workers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland has not yet been resolved. However, the employers have agreed to increase pay rates by 2.45% (backdated to 1 April 2008) plus £100 for the lowest paid workers. The increase will be implemented in November while both sides wait for the results of arbitration that should lead to a final settlement of the dispute. Meanwhile local government unions in Scotland, who are covered by a separate agreement, are being balloted over the employers’ latest offer. The unions are recommending rejection of the that would pay a 3% increase in 2008 and 2.5% in both 2009 and 2010.

Energy workers get 2.5% pay rise
(March 2017) Services union ver.di has negotiated a new two-year agreement with the AVEU employers' organisation covering over 100 small firms in the energy and waste sectors, employing around 19000 workers and some 1600 apprentices. The 2.5% pay increase is from 1 March and early next year there will be a lump sum payment of EUR 600. The increase is ahead of or in line with others in the industry, such as ENGIE (1.9% from January) and AVE Hessen (2% from February) and Energie Südwest (2.45% from February). The union highlights the increases for apprentices.
Outsourced health workers get pay rise
Public service union UNISON reports that the Medirest private company will give its 2,200 staff, who provide cleaning, portering and catering services in NHS hospitals across England, will see their pay increase by an average of 5% from the beginning of June. The lowest pay rate will rise from £8.75 (EUR 9.80) to £9.21 (EUR 10.30) an hour, bringing it in line with the minimum rate for directly employed health workers.
Energy workers to get 3.8% pay rise
Around 30000 mainly energy workers covered by the AVEU collective agreement will get a 3.8% pay rise over the next two years. Pay will rise by 2.3% from 1 June 2021 and by 1.5% from 1 November 2022 (trainees get two increases of EU 50). The agreement runs for 27 months until 31 August 2023. There will also be a corona payment of EUR 600 paid by January 2022 at the latest with a pro-rata amount for part-time employees and EUR 300 for apprentices.
