EPSU announces negotiations with European Hospital Employers on sharp injuries –talks set to start Jan 2009

(Brussels, 19 November, 2008) As the recognised European social partners in the hospital sector, EPSU and Employers’ Organisation HOSPEEM have, this week, announced their intention to start formal social dialogue negotiations on the issue of sharp injuries in hospitals. The announcement, made in a formal letter sent to European Commissioner for Employment, Vladimir Spidla, states that the social partners are “best placed” to tackle the issue of sharp injuries in the hospital sector.

The agreement, to be negotiated as a framework agreement in accordance with article 139 of the EC Treaty, marks a major step in the development of social dialogue in the Hospital sector.
EPSU General Secretary, Carola Fischbach-Pyttel, and her Hospeem counterpart, Godfrey Perera signaled to Commissioner Spidla that: “We count on your cabinet and on DG employment to support the negotiating process”.
