National and regional trade union federations have come together to protest against cuts to services and public sector jobs at regional level. Thousands took part in a demonstration in Barcelona where the regional government is planning cuts to pay and changes to working conditions. A major protest in Pamplona highlighted the threat to public services and where 1130 jobs have already been cut or are being cut with more under threat.

Anti-austerity demonstration on 22 April
The STAL local government union is organising a national demonstration in Lisbon on 22 April calling an increase in salaries and the minimum wage. The union is also continuing its campaign to block the government-imposed 40-hour week and for recognition of the hundreds of local agreements its has negotiated to retain the 35-hour week. Anti-austerity demonstrations on 19 October
The CGTP-IN trade union confederation is planning two demonstrations on 19 October in protest at the government's and Troika's policies which have seen unemployment and inequality soar. The confederation has a list of demands which include a reversal of the increase in the working week from 35 to 40 hours, cuts in wages and pensions and reductions in social security. The unions also want to see a growth strategy that includes a renegotiation of debt and a boost to demand through wage and pension increases. Scientists' union organizes demonstration
Around 1000 members of EPSU affiliate the Trade Union of the National Ukrainian Academy of Sciences took part in a protest outside the government and parliament on 19 October. They were calling for an increase in the Academy’s budget for 2012 not just to ensure better pay for workers but also to ensure that the Academy continued to maintain the level and quality of its research work.
