Union exposes pay scandal in home care

Public services union UNISON has revealed that nine out of 10 local authorities in England and Wales don't require home care providers to pay for travel time. The union is calling for urgent action to resolve the problem which is leaving an already low-paid workforce even worse off. With many care workers paid only the minimum wage of £6.50 (€8.30), their effective hourly rate can be reduced to as little as £3.50 (€4.45) when travelling between jobs, an essential element of their work, is taken into account.
