Massive protest against price hikes
(July 2016) Trade unions organised a major protest with over 50000 joining the march against government plans to double energy prices and a the cost of a range of communal services. The unions have been calling for a range of alternative actions, including a 15% general pay rise, an increase to the minimum wage and a fair reform of the wages system. Read more at EPSU.
Major protest by health union over pay and healthcare provision
The Health Workersù Union of Ukraine (HWUU) organised a major protest outside the national parliament on 19 September focusing on pay, healthcare funding and against the commercialisation of the health system. The union called on the government to respond to the labour dispute registered by the union last year and to deal with urgent issues around unpaid wages and failure to properly implement the agreed pay system. The union was also calling for increased funding for the sector and other initiatives to improve health provision. EPSU sent a message of solidarity.
Update situation in Ukraine – unions united in rejection of labour reform
The All-Ukrainian trade union Forum, the body that has representatives of more than 60 thousand primary trade union organisations, mandated by five million trade union members, is calling for a wide range of actions.
