(April 2016) The FSSHK health union organised protests at health institutions around the country on 31 March in order to put pressure on the employers with negotiations stalled. The union is campainging for a pay rise, better working conditions as well as an increase in staffing.
(November 2016) The Sanitas health union has been maintaining its protests and picketing of the Ministry of Health in support of the negotiations for a new collective agreement. The union wants to see a number of key improvements in the agreement and compliance with regulations on additional pay for night and weekend work. The union has also raised the question of equal pay for equal work, highlighting examples where health staff doing the same job are paid different rates depending on the institution they work for.
GPA-djp and vida, the two unions that organise workers in private health care, are organising actions around the country in the lead up to the fifth round of negotiations on 10 February. The sector collective agreement covers 125000 workers and the unions want to see a 35-hour week with no compensating reduction in pay. At the fourth round of bargaining the employers refused to discuss the claim and made no offer themselves and so the unions decided to organise actions to show the strength of feeling on the issue.
