Seminar on health and safety in the waste industry

Project: Identifying common interests for Social Dialogue in the waste industry

14 February 2012 from 10.30 to16.30
ITUH, room B
Bd du Roi Albert II, 5 - 1210 Brussels

On 14 February 2012 EPSU organises the second seminar on Health and Safety in the Waste industry. This is a follow up seminar to the one we organised on 28 November. It appeared that health and safety are a big issue in the waste industry. Therefore we will dedicate the second seminar also to this issue.

The waste industry is facing changes in structure and working patterns due to globalisation and higher demands for re-use and recycling of waste. The focus in the industry is shifting from disposal (“how to get rid of waste”) to re-use (“how to regain the most of the resources in waste”).
This time we will look more specifically at the situation in waste treatment companies and we will look at examples of social dialogue that promote health and safety at workplaces.

Interpretation is available in English, French and German (active), and Italian, Spanish (passive).

EPSU expects affiliated unions to cover the travel and accommodation expenses of their participants.

A hotel list offering preferential tariffs to EPSU / ETUC is attached.

The Conference is funded by the European Commission. This allows EPSU to contribute to the travel and accommodation of trade union representatives from New Member States and Candidate Countries. Affiliates in the countries concerned are requested to consult each other and nominate their delegate(s). This contribution is only available to delegates from unions having fulfilled their affiliation obligations towards EPSU as laid out in the paragraphs of section 5 of the EPSU Constitution.

The funding enables EPSU to contribute to:
- The travel of participants with a maximum of 350 euros. You are therefore requested to use APEX or cheapest tickets. In order to be reimbursed, tickets and boarding cards must be kept and sent back to EPSU after the meeting with the expense claim (taxis will not be reimbursed).
- The accommodation of participants up to a maximum of 140 euros per night for a maximum stay of 1 night.

Please fill in and return the attached participation form by 9 January 2012 at the latest, thanks!

EPSU will organise a third seminar in this series on 14 June 2012. The issue for that seminar will be: Skills and skill needs in a changing waste industry. Please mark this date in your calendar already!
