Confederations plan general strike for 4 February

The ADEDY public services confederation and the GSEE private sector confederation have called a general strike for 4 February in protest at further measures proposed by the government to implement the bail-out agreement. In this case ADEDY is focusing on more deep cuts to the pension system which has suffered many reforms over recent years. There will be another increase in retirement age (to 67) and an overall EUR 1.8 billion cut in pension spending in 2016.

Confederations call general strike for 13 February

The three main trade union confederations - ACV/CSC, FGTB/ABVV, CGLSB/ACLVB - have called a general strike on 13 February to support their position in the cross-sector negotiations where the employers are refusing to negotiate on key issues and where a government re-calculation of data has produced a negotiating margin of only 0.8% for pay. The unions want to see action on early retirement provision, a minimum pension of EUR 1500 a month, an increase in pay in general as well as a push for a minimum wage of EUR 14 an hour. Confederations plan next joint general strike for 20 May

Greece

The ADEDY public sector and GSEE private sector confederations have agreed to joint action on 20 May in the latest protest at the cuts being pushed through by the Greek government in accordance with demands from the European Commission and International Monetary Fund. The unions are focusing in particular on cuts to pensions and social security highlighting the fact that a major problem has been previous government failure to tackle the high levels of undeclared work that had reduced the level of contributions into the system.
