(14 March 2019) Today members of the European Parliament will vote on the adoption of a resolution to enter into trade negotiations with the USA.

These negotiations between the EU and the USA regarding agreements are on tariff elimination and conformity assessment

EPSU calls on members of the European parliament to vote against the opening of negotiations.

There has been no impact assessment regarding these  negotiations, there is no reference to binding provisions concerning ILO minimum standards and the Paris agreement on the Environment is not mentioned as a necessary requirement.

The negotiating directives currently do not fulfil these requirements and therefore do not provide a basis for a socially just and ecologically sustainable trade policy.

For these reasons EPSU does not support, and urges members of the European parliament not to support the present resolution.
