Ireland : Union report helps convince Dublin councillors to oppose waste privatisation

The IMPACT public services union has been campaigning to prevent the outsourcing of waste services by Dublin City Council. The union produced a briefing paper that was sent to all councillors and convinced a majority of them to vote against the management's outsourcing plans. The Croke Park national agreement on public sector savings includes an important clause requiring public authorities to use direct labour or to consult fully on any outsourcing plans. IMPACT argues that the council has failed to abide by the agreement.
