A new report from UNISON, Insourcing update: The value of returning local authority services in-house in an era of budget constraints, reveals how many local councils in the UK are bringing services back in-house. The study, carried out by the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE), includes a range of case studies that show how insourcing allows local councils to save money and exert more control over the provision of services. The other benefits of insourcing include greater flexibility and accountability as well as improved morale and terms and conditions for staff.
