Controlling contractors

A major challenge for trade unions is monitoring and controlling how
companies operate if they win contracts from public authorities. In
Finland there is now cross-party support for legislative proposals
that could require contractors to take more responsibility for
sub-contracting. The Macedonian government has adopted ILO Convention
94 that calls for the inclusion of social clauses in procurement. In
Malta the government has included clauses protecting pay and
conditions in the tendering of security services.
