EPSU and local authority employers (CEMR-EP) hold migrant workers' workshop

(10March 2009, Brussels) EPSU and the employers’ platform of the Council for Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) staged a workshop looking at the policies of local government organizations regarding migrant workers. The workshop participants heard from Hubert Krieger of the European Dublin Foundation for the Improvement of Working and Living. He gave an outline of the activities of the CLIP network. CLIP, which stands for Cities for Local Integration Policies for migrants, is a network of more than 30 European cities (presentation attached) working in the areas of housing, diversity, inter-cultural dialogue and entrepreneurship. Mr Krieger’s presentation focused on employment issues and included a list of recommendations to take up in the local government social dialogue process. The workshop also heard about experiences from the cities of Vienna, Munich and Rotterdam to improve conditions and opportunities for migrants. The workshop’s discussion will be followed-up in the EPSU/CEMR social dialogue committee as well as in EPSU.
