Around 1000 members of EPSU affiliate the Trade Union of the National Ukrainian Academy of Sciences took part in a protest outside the government and parliament on 19 October. They were calling for an increase in the Academy’s budget for 2012 not just to ensure better pay for workers but also to ensure that the Academy continued to maintain the level and quality of its research work.

Trade unions organize anti-austerity demonstrations
National and regional trade union federations have come together to protest against cuts to services and public sector jobs at regional level. Thousands took part in a demonstration in Barcelona where the regional government is planning cuts to pay and changes to working conditions. A major protest in Pamplona highlighted the threat to public services and where 1130 jobs have already been cut or are being cut with more under threat. Union organizes week of protests in lead up to national demonstration
The STAL local government union organized a series of protests near the prime minister’s office in the week beginning 23 August. The union is protesting about government policy towards local government and in particular restrictions of the collective bargaining process and plans to introduce greater working time flexibility.
