The EPSU guide on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) now released!

EPSU Guide GDPR April 2019

(17 April 2019) How to use GDPR to defend workers' rights and their privacy in public services.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a set of rules designed to give EU citizens more control over their personal data.

Since the entry into force of the new regulation, EPSU has been advocating its use to ensure and promote workers’ privacy. Our actions are aimed at ensuring that GDPR compliance does not create additional burdens for workers in applying and implementing data protection policies or lead to a shift of responsibility to them.

For this reason our role as trade unions is fundamental: worker and trade union representatives need to be informed about their rights and responsibilities when they are data collectors and processors and more aware of their rights as data subjects.

This is why EPSU developed this practical brochure to provide guidance to public service unions to use the GDPR to its fullest potential.

The EPSU guide examines the GDPR from three different perspectives: the rights and obligations of workers and its specific application in public administrations. The last part is devoted to how we can ensure compliance with the GDPR in our trade unions and how to manage data.
