Around 150,000 workers in the private health sector are still waiting for their collective agreement to be renewed 32 months after it expired. The latest negotiations between the unions and employers broke down despite attempts at conciliation by the Minister for Employment. Further action is now being considered by the unions after the holiday period ends.

Three confederations protest over breakdown in social dialogue
In an unprecedented move the three confederations – Solidarnosc, NPZZ and Forum – have agreed to withdraw from tripartite social dialogue working groups and to challenge the Prime Minister on the government’s failure to comply with legislation on social dialogue and convene regular meetings of the tripartite commission. The unions argue that the government has a constitutional duty to take part in the social dialogue and not just in the working groups that have no decision-making role. Unions in private healthcare mobilise as negotiations are suspended
The public service federations - FP-CGIL, CISL-FP and UIL-FPL - have suspended negotiations with two private sector employer organisations in healthcare - AIOP and ARIS. The negotiations cover around 300000 workers and the unions are frustrated by the employers' refusal to ensure funding for a new collective agreement, 12 years after the last agreement was signed. The unions have also declared a state of mobilisation and have written to the President of the Conference of the Regions to alert him to the situation and to ask for an urgent meeting.
Firefighters' unions plan strike over breakdown in social dialogue
Following a 10,000-strong demonstration last November, four firefighters’ unions are continuing to coordinate action against proposals to reorganise the fire service. The unions argue that there has been no real social dialogue over the changes and they have announced 24-hour strike action and are mobilising for another national demonstration on 15 February.
