Following a ballot of its members in March, PCS, the main civil service union has called a national strike on 10 May coordinated with other unions in the public sector with further national action coordinated with other unions at the end of June. The union is also planning regional protests and rallies on 10 May and action short of a strike including an overtime ban from 11 May until the end of June.

Members of the PCS civil service union at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Swansea, South Wales, have agreed to take another four days of strike action from 4-7 May. This follows the four-day action on 6-9 April that the union says was strongly supported. PCS is concerned that DVLA management have failed to take action to address safety concerns following very high levels of COVID-19 infections at the site where 4000 workers are employed. The union has also argued about the level of continuing risk involved from allowing 2000 workers to carry on working at the site.
Energy sector unions were pleased with the level of support for their protests on 18 October and are meeting to plan the next stage in their campaign against government plans to reduce benefits in their pension schemes. The changes would require more years of contribution to secure full benefits and pose a threat to the defined benefits system. Read more at > FNME-CGT (FR)
PCS, the main civil service union, is to ballot its 270,000 civil service members over further industrial action over jobs and pay. This follows an extensive consultation exercise by the union which found many members will to take further action to defend jobs and win real increases in pay.
