Italy: unions protest at private health employers’ refusal to ratify agreement

(4 August 2020) EPSU has sent solidarity greetings to the three public service federations Fp Cgil, Cisl Fp and Uil Fpl for their national demonstration in Rome tomorrow. The protest is directed at the two private health employer associations, Aris and Aiop, who last month refused to ratify the sector collective agreement that they had endorsed in June.

The trade unions are appalled that the employers, who rely on public funding, have behaved in this way following three years of negotiations. It is 14 years since the last sector agreement was signed and a real slap in the fact for the thousands of health care employees who have been on the frontline of the fight against COVID-19.

The three federations are determined to fight to get the agreement ratified and tomorrow is likely to be the first of a series of protests and possible industrial action.
