Solidarity with Hungarian unions on proposed overtime changes

EPSU solidarity with Hungarian demonstration on 8 December opposing the proposal to amend the Labour Code

EPSU is sending solidarity greetings to its Hungarian affiliates ahead of a demonstration taking place on 8th December. EPSU stands with affiliates and the Hungarian trade union movement as they oppose the proposal to amend the Labour Code which would increase the overtime threshold from 250 to 400 hours a year, as well as increase the period in which overtime needs to be accounted for from 1 to 3 years.

We believe it is unacceptable that workers’ rights would be curtailed and their right to Work-Life Balance and their Health and safety be threatened. Workers should not be required to work longer hours and do overtime to earn a decent living for themselves and their families and we have been supporting affiliates’ calls for decent wages.

We hope that the issue is resolved swiftly and that the action puts pressure on the government to honour trade unions’ demands and ensure decent working conditions to workers in all sectors.
