Unions prepare for further action over health and social care pay claim

After a march in Vienna on 24 January and a day of action on 30 January, the vida and GPA-djp trade unions warn of further action to support their negotiations covering 100000 workers in the private health and social care sector. The employers increased their original pay offer from 2.1% to 2.25% but the unions say that this completely fails to recognise the new tasks and responsibilities faced by many in the sector. The unions are also calling for a cut in working time. The fifth round of bargaining is due on 12 February and the unions have already indicated widespread support among their members for more action to put pressure on employers.

Union prepares claim for disabled care sector

Over 1600 workers in the disabled care sector responded to a questionnaire by the FNV Abvakabo trade union which is using the survey responses to help prepare for negotiations over the sector agreement that expires on 1 March this year. Over 75% of respondents thought that quality of care had been reduced as job cuts have led to increased workloads. The survey indicates that most respondents want Abvakabo to focus on maintaining jobs, regulating flexible contracts and protecting purchasing power which will mean a target of a 3% pay increase. Health workers in further action over workloads

Members of the services union ver.di have taken strike action in three hospitals as part of the union's campaign to tackle excessive workloads in the sector. The targeted hospitals in Düsseldorf, Ottweiler in Saarland and Dachau, near Munich are respectively public, non-profit and private and ver.di says that none of the three employers has been willing to discuss a collective agreement to reduce workloads. Home care workers plan further action

The four unions representing home care workers in the Basque region (ELA, LAB, UGT and USO) have planned further work stoppages as part of their long-running campaign to end the pay freeze and negotiate new collective agreements. Two three-hour stoppages will take place on 25 and 31 May. There will also be a protest outside the Mungia town hall on the 25th and workers will surround the Bilbao town hall on the 31st. The unions are targeting local authorities for allowing the contracting out of home care services without any minimum prices specified and no hours guaranteed for the workers. The
