Final result of study delivered – large interest to meet

(9 October 2012) Based on the results of the questionnaires a large number of organisations have indicated they are interested to exchange information and learn from each others’ experiences. The results were presented by ConsultingEuropa and will be considered at a conference 15 November 2012. The conference will bring together employers, trade unions and representatives of skills councils, employment observatories and related organisations. The survey also indicated that there are considerable challenges for the sector including the impact of renewables.

The meeting took place on 8 October 2012, in Brussels. For EPSU the Deputy General Secretary took part.

Extended mediation finally delivers result for municipal and state workers

Norway

Five of the six trade unions in the LO Kommune bargaining group agreed to back the mediation proposal for municipal workers that was finally delivered on 24 May, averting strikes across the sector. The largest union in the sector, Fagforbundet, reported that the agreement would deliver increases on annual salaries of between NOK 12000 (€1165) and NOK 16800 (€1635). The settlement was ahead of that achieved in manufacturing this year, as the unions had pushed for a better deal to allow catching up on the lower settlement in 2021. Action by health union delivers results

Türkiye

Picketing and strike action by the Dev Sağlık-İş trade union, with support from EPSU and PSI, helped address bullying, harassment and anti-trade union behaviour by management at the Koç University Hospital in Istanbul. Although the dismissed union members were not reinstated, the employer paid increased compensation in recognition of the discriminatory action against union officials. The union also secured the dismissal of the manager responsible for the bullying, the end to harassment and withdrawal of false accusations against union members. Both PSI and EPSU sent protest letters.
