Health and Safety Statement by European Social Partners Electricity Industry

The European electricity social dialogue partners, Eurelectric and the trade unions signed the revised Health and Safety and Training Statement, 13 December 2006. It has been revised to take account of the EU enlargement and new member states as well as new directives. It underlines furthermore an important responsibility for the companies vis-à-vis subcontractors and outsourced services regarding control of health and safety. The social partners are also conscious of the different impacts of health and safety risks for women and men. The statement recommends the social partners to take the statement into account and develop it further at national and local level. The employers and the unions further agreed to establish a health and safety working group of the social dialogue committee. The secretariats were mandated to develop this further, and including the visibility of health and safety.

EPSU Deputy General Secretary Jan Willem Goudriaan signed the statement on behalf of EPSU commenting “It is an important step in the European electricity industry to improve health and safety and address concrete concerns of workers. We recommend employers and unions to discuss the actual implementation”

The statement is available in English, French, German, Italian and Danish.
