The GPA-djp services union is arguing that the right to six weeks' holiday should be extended to more workers. Currently the right tends to be limited to private sector workers with 25 years' service and public sector workers aged 43 and over. The union argues that more workers should have the right, particularly in sectors dominated by women such as health and social care. Increased holiday is important for the rest, recuperation and motivation of workers.

More pay, holidays and allowances for emergency workers
The vida and GPA-djp private service trade unions have negotiated a new agreement covering around 600 medical and health emergency staff. Workers in the Vienna region will get a 3.2% increase backdated to 1 February while increases will be set according to the appropriate arrangements in other regions and backdated to 1 January. After five years' service all workers will get an additional day of paid holidays. There is also an increase in the cleaning allowance and a child allowance of at least EUR 15 for each child from 2020.
Six federations back action on 8 February
Six public sector union federations are backing a day of action on pay on 8 February and EPSU has sent a message of support to the unions taking part. The action is another stage in the unions' long-running campaign to try to bring the government to the negotiating table, to get at least a 1.8% increase on pay this year and then make up for the reduction in purchasing power since 2000. Unions are also concerned about the implications of the government's planned job cuts for the quality of public services. Read more at > EPSU (FR)
