Union calls for more regulation on quality jobs and services

The Kommunal municipal workers' union has called for more regulation to protect pay, jobs, working conditions and the quality of service in health and social services. The union is concerned about the increasing role played by for-profit private sector organisations in the sector and that it is often workers' pay and conditions as well as the quality of service that suffer in order to ensure profitability in the companies. Kommunal says that clearer rules on standards should be applied in the procurement process to protect the quality and sustainability of services.

Union calls for more funding for social service jobs and pay

The OSZSP health and social service union met with employers and the government last month to discuss funding of social services. Employers in the non-profit sector agreed with the union about the importance of ensuring adequate and reliable funding for the sector. There were some concerns about the ability to pay the 2019 pay increase and employers said that the uncertainty of funding was causing problems for maintaining jobs and decent pay levels. Union calls for shorter hours and more jobs

Criticising the tax cuts of recent years, the VPOD/SSP public services union is calling for more jobs to be created in the public sector with shorter working hours and longer holidays for public service employees. The union argues that working hours in the public sector are longer than most other sectors while annual leave is shorter.
