Local government union takes further action

Local government union STAL, along with other unions in the public sector Frente Comum, is continuing its campaign against the austerity measures being imposed by the government. It was involved in major day of action on 26 November. The union will also step up its campaign for a 35-hour week and against the five-hour increase to 40 hours imposed by the government and recently endorsed by the Constitutional Court.

Union takes further action against outsourcers

U.K.

Central government union PCS organised a fifth week of action against outsourcing company Interserve which provides services for the Foreign Office. The core of the dispute is over union recognition. Meanwhile, the union also organised a five-day strike by cleaners employed by the ISS multinational which has a contract with the tax and revenue service (HMRC) on Merseyside in north west England.

Waste sector unions to take further action

Following their massively supported national strike on 8 November, union federations in the waste sector are taking another day of action on 13 December. The unions have been calling for the renewal of the sector agreement which expired 29 months ago and to ensure it covers the whole of the sector. Employers are, however, are looking to undermine collective bargaining and trade union rights. They haven’t made any offer to increase pay or to compensate workers for the period since the expiry of the last agreement.
