ETUC calls on affiliates to use collective bargaining to close gender pay gap

The ETUC has called for more urgent action to close the gender pay gap across Europe. On average women earn 15% less than men but this gap rises to 20% in some countries. The ETUC believes that collective bargaining is the main instrument to be used to tackle pay inequalities and says that particular action needs to be taken to deal with the “wage penalty” attached to part-time working. Pay equality is a central demand in the ETUC's fair pay campaign.

Unions call for government action to close gender pay gap

A group of 14 trade unions, including the FOA public services union, the BUPL and SL childcare and social worker unions and the cartel of health unions, has written to the government calling on it to take action to address the persistent gender pay gap.
