The STAL and STML public administration unions demonstrated in Lisbon on 25 November against government policy and pay and the rights of public sector workers. The unions want a pay increase that will begin to compensate them for the fall in public sector workers' purchasing power over the last five years. The unions warn further action is likely in December.

The STAL public administration union has organised a month of action in protest at government plans for the public services and attacks on the rights of public service workers. The union acknowledges that some changes need to be made in public administration but argues for a process of modernisation not destruction. It will organise weekly vigils outside the council of ministers and will distribute publicity material to highlight its arguments among the electorate. Further strike action against austerity
The ADEDY civil service confederation is planning another 24-hour strike on 10 February in protest against the harsh measures adopted by the government in line with its agreements with the European Commission and International Monetary Fund. Unions continue action against government policy
Public service unions continue their protests against government policy, opposing plans for privatisation and attacks on workers' pay and conditions. Trade union reps and leaders from STAL joined a demonstration outside the prime minister's residence on 29 March and further action is planned in the first half of May. The CGTP federation has organised a demonstration for 1 April in Lisbon calling for a defence of workers' rights and collective bargaining as well as maintenance of quality public services.
