According to the EIRO industrial relations observatory the latest figures for wage growth in Slovakia show real wages increasing at their fastest rate for five years. In the first of 2005 wages were rising at 8.2% and real wages at 5.6%. However, figures broken down by industry suggest that real wages fell in the electricity, gas and water sector by 7.3%.

A new report from the EIRO industrial relations observatory outlines the systems of wage formation that are in operation across the 27 Member States of the EU plus Norway, with a table summarising arrangements in public and private sectors in each country. The Vision white-collar local government union is in the process of developing its wages policy with the aim of giving individual workers more say over their pay. The process started in the spring with a wide-ranging series of discussions involving members and non-members. A special website was visited over 14,000 times. The union wants to see all employees being paid on the basis of performance and competence while having a real influence over the payroll process.
