Union wants to see collective agreements against sexual harassment

A new survey by the Vision trade union shows that just over one in 10 social workers say they have suffered sexual harassment in the past year. The union is concerned that the relevant legislation is not being applied and wants to see local collective agreements with more effective measures to tackle the problem. The survey also found that one in seven women between the ages of 20 and 29 say they have been harassed in the past year by someone who is not a colleague. Vision says that local collective agreements can be negotiated to address all forms of harassment, including that by third-parties which is not covered in current discrimination legislation .

Confederation calls for action to tackle sexual harassment

The ADEDY civil service confederation has submitted a report to the interior ministry which addresses sexual harassment across the public service and puts forwards proposals to amend the relevant regulations. The Confederation argues that physical or verbal violence and harassment suffered by female workers is directly related to the devaluation of their employment. It says that the extent of the problem has to be exposed and full support given to victims. ADEDY has proposed changes to the civil service code and other regulations to ensure that there are clear definitions of sexual harassment

ETUC wants to see support for real economy

The ETUC has called on governments to adopt policies that will provide a boost to the real economy and not just to bail out the finance sector with an injection of capital. The Confederation is looking for a range of measures to increase economic activity and avoid the risk of deflation. It wants to see a quick and significant cut in interest rates and an increase in real wages rather than the kind of downwards wage flexibility that the European Central Bank and Eurogroup of finance ministers have been arguing for. Union wants to see urgent action on precarious employment

(May 2017) The STAL local government union has called on the government to allow local authorities to take immediate action to tackle precarious employment in the sector. The union says that an ordinance aimed at the state sector doesn't go far enough and that local authorities should be allowed to take the initiative now to reduce various forms of temporary work and provide permanent contracts to workers who are doing permanent tasks but have been appointed on short-term contracts.
