Health unions confirm 10% increase for 2023

The FNV and NU’91 health workers’ unions have worked to ensure that the 80,000 employees of the seven University Medical Centres will all receive a 10% pay rise in 2023 – 6% in January and 4% in November. There was some concern that not all employees would receive the same increase at the same time and the trade unions were considering legal action to get the employers to properly implement the collective agreement. The increase is slightly below the retail price inflation level of 11.2% but the aim will be to negotiate further compensation for inflation in the next bargaining round.

Government confirms CZK 1500 increase across public sector

The government has confirmed the pay increase for public sector workers that was negotiated in September. There will be a flat rate CZK 1500 (EUR 59) increase per year, meaning on average a 7% increase. However, the government has also confirmed that it will abolish the pay table for lower paid staff. These include non-teaching staff in regional education, culture staff, secondary professions in social services and non-medical professions in hospitals. These will be transferred to another pay system meaning a additional increase of 3.5%. The increases take effect in January.

Unions call on government to confirm 10% pay rise

Public sector trade unions met on 30th August to give a clear message to the government that there should be no further delay in paying the 10% salary increase for all public service workers. The unions accused the government of delay as it had already indicated that the promised increase would be applied from November rather than September. The unions said that they had been negotiating in good faith since April and would be joining a national demonstration on pay on 14 September to underline their message to the government.

Union gets confirmation of funding for pay rises in non-profit health and social care

The SIPTU general workers' union has confirmed that thousands of health and social care workers employed by non-profit organisations (Section 39) are set to get a EUR 1000 pay increase as part of a process of pay restoration in line with what has been happening in the public sector. Around 50 organisations are covered by the initial negotiations and the situation in a further 250 organisations will be taken up in negotiations beginning in July. The union managed to negotiate a deal last December after an 18-month campaign.
