Picketing and strike action by the Dev Sağlık-İş trade union, with support from EPSU and PSI, helped address bullying, harassment and anti-trade union behaviour by management at the Koç University Hospital in Istanbul. Although the dismissed union members were not reinstated, the employer paid increased compensation in recognition of the discriminatory action against union officials. The union also secured the dismissal of the manager responsible for the bullying, the end to harassment and withdrawal of false accusations against union members. Both PSI and EPSU sent protest letters.

Four days of strike action by workers at Roscommon council in the West of Ireland have lead to the restoration of the right to flexi-leave that had been removed by the council's management. The workers, organised by the Fórsa and SIPTU trade unions, had carried out a series of four one-day strikes and further action was planned in order to secure rights which are enjoyed across the rest of the local government sector and which are important in ensuring a good work-life balance, particularly for working parents. EPSU had sent a solidarity message.
Following a series of warning strikes in the lead up to the third round of negotiations public services union ver.di was able to secure a positive result for the 2.1 million workers employed by the federal and local authorities. The agreement includes a 3% increase for 2014 but with a minimum amount of €90 and so benefiting lower paid workers in particular. All workers will also now have a minimum of 30 days' annual leave. There will be a further pay increase of 2.4% from 1 March 2015. Ver.di says that this is one of the best deals secured in the current bargaining round in Germany. [Read more
