Action delivers 11.2% pay rise for lower paid hospital workers

Member of the vida private services union working at the network of religious hospitals have voted by a two-thirds majority to accept a new pay deal. Increases will range from 8.4% to 11.2% (for the lower paid) with a minimum increase on monthly salaries of €205. The union has welcomed the agreement that begins to recognise the work done by health staff during the pandemic and helps address the rising cost of living. Vida also underlined the importance of the high level of member participation in campaigning and industrial action that contributed to securing a better pay offer from the employers.

Private sector agreement delivers for lower paid

Norway

Following targeted strike action, trade unions covered by the main private sector agreement with the NHO employers’ organisation have negotiated an hourly increase of NOK 7.5 (€0.65) for all workers plus an extra NOK 3.00 (€0.25) for the lower paid. The lower paid are categorised as workers in collective agreements where the average wage is 90% of the industry-wide average wage. For workers where pay is below 90% of the industry average and where there is no local bargaining the additional increase will be NOK 4.00 (€0.35). The LO trade union confederation sees this as one of the best deals

Disability care agreement delivers 8%+ for lower paid

Netherlands

Members of the FNV, NU’91 and other unions have endorsed the new collective agreement covering around 190000 workers in disability care that is backdated and runs from 1 October 2021 to 31 January 2024. There is a 2.2% pay rise as from 1 May 2022 but with an €85 minimum increase and with also a commitment to a minimum hourly rate of €13.00. This means a 5% increase for the lowest paid. On 1 May 2023 there will be a further increase of 3.2%. The agreement also provides for hours reductions for older workers to encourage them to stay at work longer and measures to address the needs of women

Boost for lower paid in health and social care deal

Austria

After the sixth round of negotiations, the vida and GPA-djp service unions agreed a deal for 100000 workers in the private health and social care sector. There will be a 2.5% pay increase dated from 1 February but with a EUR 48 per month minimum increase. This will mean more than 3% for the lowest paid workers. There will also be specific provisions for care assistants, special care assistants and qualified nurses who will see additional increases ranging from EUR 10 to EUR 50 a month in both 2018 and 2019.
