Public sector deal moves closer

The SZSVS health union reports that a new agreement covering the public sector is close to being finalised with a 4.5% pay increase due from 1 October this year. There will also be increases to the lunch allowances and some starting salaries will be moved up one pay bracket from April 2023. There will also be additional compensation ranging from €100 to €300 for the lower paid. However, several matters affecting different pay categories of health workers, that prompted a strike earlier this year, remain unresolved and firefighters are also concerned to see some occupations move up the pay scale.

Public employees statute moves closer to becoming law

The Spanish Council of Ministers approved the basic bill covering public employees earlier this month (July 2006) that means that the bill will now go through the parliamentary process to become an act. It has taken around 18 months of meetings, reports and negotiations to finalise the statute that will apply to 2.5 million public employees in central, regional and local government as well as the autonomous provinces. Union hopes legislation will bring equality a step closer

The vida services union thinks that the equality law that took effect on 1 March will help progress towards pay equality. The law requires employers to provide details of men’s and women’s pay, including various additions and allowances. The law initially applies to employers with over 1,000 employees but will be extended to small employers over the next three years. The report will be confidential within the company and either provided to the works council or, where there is no works council, to the whole workforce. Public sector deal delivers 3% average pay rise

Austria

The annual pay negotiations that cover the public sector have resulted in an average pay increase of 3% which will also apply to allowances and other pay additions. Lower paid workers will actually see their pay rise by 3.22% with a 2.91% applied to higher salaries. The increases come into effect on 1 January 2022. The increase is the highest for more than 10 years and ahead of the inflation rate up to September 2020 which forms one of the agreed bases for the negotiations.
