Strike action wins better pay offer

(February 2017) Workers employed by the Karbel municipal company in Karabağlart in the Izmir province in western Turkey took strike action at the end of January and won an improved pay offer from the employer. Wages will rise by 9% this year and there is an inflation-plus formula for the second year of the agreement. Other allowances will also increase. EPSU sent solidarity greetings underlining the workers' determination to assert their right to take action even during a period when the government has threatened to ban strikes.

Strike threat produces better offer from hospital employers

Health sector trade unions, including the FNV and NU’91 have secured an improved pay offer from hospital employers following the strike action earlier this month and the threat of further action in April. A general pay rise of 5% will be backdated to 1 February and there will be a further 5% increase on 1 December, with a minimum increase of €150 per month. On 1 June 2024, wages in the lowest salary scales will increase by 5%, with a floor of €150. Workers on higher salary scales will get an additional 2%, plus €180. Unions look for better offer on pay and hours

The main public sector unions in the CCOO and UGT confederations are calling on the government to improve its pay offer for the next three years. The current offer provides a guarantee for a 5.34% increase (1.5% in 2018, 1.75% in 2019 and 2.0% in 2020). Strike action secures improved offer for local government workers

Unions representing local government workers in Scotland – UNISON, Unite and GMB – have suspended strike action while they consult members over an improved pay offer from the employers. The three unions are recommending acceptance of a deal that would provide a £2000 (€2310) annual pay rise for the lowest paid; £1,925 (€2225) for those earning between £20,500-£39,000 (€23700-€45000); a 5% increase for those earning between £39,000-£60,000 (€45000-€69360); and a maximum increase of £3000 (€3470) for the highest paid.
