Unions threaten legal action over pay rises

Public sector unions, including state sector union SDLSN, have threatened to go to the courts if the new government does not honour an agreement to implement pay increases 4%, 8% or 10% based on years of services. The previous government did not pay any increases in 2015 in response to the pressure on public finances but they were expected in 2016 with a return to economic growth. The new government is asking unions to be patient while it sorts out funding for the current year as current financial plans do not include provisions for the increases for the whole year.

Union threatens local authority with legal action for cutting local allowance

Denmark

The FOA public service union is threatening Silkeborg local authority with legal action unless it ensures that it will pay local allowances to its employees. The FOA co-ordinated strike action among educational workers and teaching assistants last spring, securing a slightly higher increase than in the municipal agreement. However, the union says that Silkeborg appears to be trying to cut local allowances while implementing the national agreement. This could cost the workers affected as much as 1400 DKr (€188) a month. Energy union threatens strike action over pay

Romania

The Federation of Trade Unions Gaz Romania (FSGR) has said it may resort to strike action if the ENGIE energy company doesn't respond to its demands on pay. The union argues that the employers have failed to come up with a reasonable offer and also to provide information needed for the negotiations. The union has been in contact with the Labour Inspectorate to help put pressure on the company to provide the requested data and it hasn't ruled out possible legal action to be accompanied by protests and strikes.

Health unions threaten strike action over pay

Health unions were due to meet the government on 23 August to continue negotiations over the current collective agreement and previously agreed pay increases. The unions are threatening strike action if there is not a positive outcome and confirmation that pay increases included in the current collective agreement will be honoured. Pay increases of 3% (in August) for health workers in general and 4% (in October) for staff with diagnostic responsibilities are part of the annex to the collective agreement in force until 31 October. However, the government said it wouldn't confirm the increases
