EPSU has written to the Speaker of the Parliament and head of the social affairs committee to express its serious concern about proposed changes to labour law. The changes would impose restrictions on trade unions in terms of membership rights, elections as well as introducing new requirements on publishing financial information. The letter underlines that a number of the proposals are in conflict with International Labour Organisation conventions.
The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) has written to the President of Kyrgyzstan calling on him to withdraw the draft law on trade unions. The ITUC says that the bill conflicts with the fundamental International Labour Organisation Conventions 87 and 98 on the rights to freedom of association, to organise and collective bargaining. According to the ITUC the draft legislation also contravenes ILO Convention 144 on tripartite consultation as wells as parts of the Kyrgyz constitution. A new report from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Germany looks at recent developments at the International Labour Organisation (ILO). At the 2012 International Labour Conference (ILC), employers blocked the adoption and discussion of a list of countries accused of the most serious violations of international labour and social standards according to the annual report by the Committee of Experts.
