Unions organising in the mental health sector have negotiated a new collective agreement which will be put to a membership vote for approval. There will be pay increases of 1.75% on 1 July 2015 and 1.25% on 1 July 2016. There will also be a 0.5% increase in the annual bonus in December 2016 and a lump sum payment of 0.5% of salary on 1 December 2015, followed by a further payment of 0.3% of salary in December 2016. The agreement includes conversion of temporary and zero-hour contracts to permanent jobs. The agreement will take effect on July 1, 2015 and runs until 1 March 2017.

Additional pay rises in mental health care
The FNV trade union has negotiated a 10% pay rise for the 100000 workers in mental health care on top of the pay increases already set in the current collective agreement. Mental health workers themselves had supported the union’s demands by starting a petition that got more than 10000 signatures in a very short space of time. There will be an additional salary increase of 5% in 2023 (minimum €150) on top of the previously agreed 2% (minimum €60). The FNV, along with other trade unions, has negotiated a three-year deal for around 100,000 mental health workers that provides for pay increases of up to 9% and a minimum increase of €60 a month. There is a 2% pay increase each year plus a change to the pay structure that equates to overall increases of 7%-9%. There are also improvements to call-out and rest arrangements, a €2-a-day working-from-home allowance and reduced working time for those within four years of retirement. Abvakabo, CNV Publieke Zaak and NU’91 have negotiated a new 24-month collective agreement in a difficult bargaining environment, with the government talking about cuts to the health budget. There will be a 1% pay increase on 1 October 2009 and another 1% on 1 August 2010. The year end bonus payment will be worth 5.25% of salary in 2009 and 5.75% of salary in 2010 while there will also be a 0.65% lump sum payment.
