After five bargaining rounds and warning strikes by members, services union ver.di has secured a pay increase for workers in the private waste sector. There will be a €50 lump sum to cover the first three months of 2015 and then a 3% pay increase from 1 April 2015 and then 1.8% from 1 January 2016. The agreement runs until 31 December 2016. Apprentices will get a 10% pay rise along with the €50 lump sum.

Warning strikes help deliver pay rises for regional government workers
The ver.di trade union has begun to consult members over the deal reached on 9 December with regional government employers after a third round of bargaining. The agreement is comparable to that covering federal and municipal workers and includes a tax-free lump sum of €3,000, which will be paid as a one-off amount of €1,800 in December 2023, followed by monthly payments of €120 between January and October 2024. On 1 November 2024, monthly salaries will be increased by €200 and then increased again by 5.5% on 1 February 2025 (with the guarantee of a minimum increase of €340). Ver.di believes

Over 7,500 employees of the Vattenfall energy company took part in a warning strike on 1 February in protest at a poor pay offer from the company and threats to undermine existing pay and conditions agreements. Following the strike ver.di and the other unions managed to secure a 3.9% pay increase backdated to 1 January 2008 and a commitment from the company not to attack any existing negotiated rights and entitlements. The ver.di trade union reports a very positive result for employees of the Alba waste and cleaning company based in Cottbus and Lausitz in Eastern Germany. Workers will see a pay increase of at least €335 a month as of 1 January 2025 but with an initial increase of €205 backdated to 1 January 2024. The union says this corresponds to a 14.47% pay increase overall with employees with more than six years of service in pay group 4 getting €432 more, ending up with a gross salary of €2959.53 – an effective increase of 17.09%.
