Confederation criticises public sector agreement

Turkey Turkey
The KESK public sector confederation is highly critical of recent negotiations on pay between the government and the Memur Sen public sector trade union. KESK explains that it and another trade union organisation (Kamu Sen) were effectively excluded from the negotiations. Although the largest public sector organisation Memur Sen is seen as very close to the government and its membership is not much larger than KESK and Kamu Sen combined. KESK also criticises Memur Sen for exaggerating the percentage increase that was negotiated with pay set to rise for some workers by 4.54% rather than the 6% claimed by Memur Sen. While inflation is expected to be around 6% next year it is currently running at 8.8%. KESK organised a series of demonstrations between 16 and 20 August against the agreement.
