Unions representing doctors and health workers agreed on pay increases, reduced workloads and new working time arrangements at the end of October after lengthy strike action. From 1 March 2013 pay for nurses will increase by 17.5% and for doctors by 11%. The health sector minimum wage, covering many care workers, will increase by 23%.

In the middle of December the CGT-Santé health federation signed a deal to end a long-running strike and dispute with the Vedici/Vitalia private health company. The 51-day strike was at the company's clinic in Montauban in southern France, close to Toulouse. The agreement includes taking on three full-time care assistants on permanent contracts, a reorganisation of working conditions, payment of a EUR 400 lump sum, abolition of all pay rates below the minimum wage as well as improved parental leave and holidays. Nurses employed by the Cancer Society will see their pay and conditions protected after the longest strike ever organised by the NSF nurses' union. The strike was called when the employers moved to a new employers' organisation with a poorer collective agreement. The new agreement will protect the union's right to strike and ensure that industry-standard minimum pay rates apply.
Doctors are to get pay rises worth between 5000 (€206) and 8000 crowns (€330) as part of a deal that will their salaries increase to around 1.5 times the national average salary by 2013. A major national campaign had seen around 3800 hospital doctors threaten to resign on 1 March if the government didn’t make any concessions on pay. Read more at > Ceske Noviny news website (EN)
