123,000 public sector jobs cut

The government announced at the end of December that it had surpassed the target set by the International Monetary Fund and cut 123,000 jobs from the public sector, 16,000 more than required by the agreement with the IMF. The total number of public sector workers now stands at 1,274,000 but further cuts are planned for this year.
