Public sector unions agree minimum €25.50 increase

After only the second round of negotiations EPSU affiliates GÖD and GDG-KMSFB have agreed a pay increase for 2011. There is a basic increase of 0.85% but with a minimum rise of €25.50. This means that the percentage increase for the lowest paid workers will be 2.1%. The GDG welcomed the increase but said that it was still critical of the government’s cuts in other budget areas, particularly in family and education spending and also the small increase for pensioners (0.31%). Inflation in the year to September was 1.9%.

Minimum wage increases agreed

The EIRO industrial relations observatory reports that the government and social partners have agreed new minimum wage rates including a new three-tier minimum wage system. For 2006 the government has recommended a 10.5% increase to HUF 63,000 (254 euros). The second rate for jobs requiring a vocational qualification will be 10% higher at HUF 70,000 and the third minimum wage rate will be another 10% higher at HUF 77,000 for jobs requiring a degree. Employers and unions agree 21% increase in minimum wage

Estonia

The minimum wage in Estonia is set to rise to 4,350 kroons (€278) in January 2008 following agreement between the EAKL trade union confederation and the employers. This represents an increase of 21% on the current minimum wage of 3,600 kroons a month. Although this is well ahead of inflation (8.5% in the 12 months to October) it is only just in line with increases in average earnings (20%-22%). This means that the minimum wage will remain at just under 40% of average earnings even after this significant increase.
