After a warning strike on 24 August the SDE energy union has managed to secure talks with the government over plans to unbundle of the Slovenian electricity network from the retail business. A strike planned for 14 September has been called following the government’s agreement to have a proper process of social dialogue over the changes.

Public sector unions call off strikes
Public sector unions called off strikes planned for 13 and 14 May and a national demonstration planned for 16 May. The unions secured an agreement on pay for 60,000 civil servants that will now be voted on by union members. If members reject the agreement then the unions will return to the negotiating table with the government. Civil servants’ pay will be increased in line with inflation from 1 January 2010 and they will also get a 6% increase once the economy has registered two consecutive quarters of growth. Union calls for pay talks
The GÖD public service union has written to the civil service minister, Doris Bures, asking to pay negotiations to commence. The union wants to ensure that negotiations take place in good time so that the annual pay increase for public sector workers can be implemented on 1 January 2008. As usual the union is calling for the negotiations to take account of economic growth and inflation. The union has welcomed a comment from social minister Erwin Buchinger suggesting that workers should expect a pay increase of 4%. The pay negotiations affect 450,000 civil servants and employees in national
