Telekom strike enters fifth week
Over 14,000 members of the ver.di services union are involved in a major strike at Deutsche Telekom, the telecommunications company. The strike began on 11 May in protest at the company's plans to transfer 50,000 employees to three new companies where they would have to work longer hours for lower pay. Strike at private hospital enters third week
Members of the CGT trade union at the private hospital owned by Médipôle Sud Santé in Narbonne in the South of France have been on strike for over two weeks in support of their demands for a pay increase of 3%, along with a monthly bonus of €100 and a 13th month payment. The union has called on the FHP private hospitals organisation to deal with pay at national level in view of a series of strikes in the sector – 37 around the country in May, June and July. Seventh general strike against austerity measures
Trade union protests against the government’s austerity measures continued with a general strike on 15 December. The most recent proposals from the government includes caps on salaries in state-owned companies as well as changes to employment law to allow private sector employers to ignore collective agreements.
