Ver.di expresses concern over waste employers' federation

There is a danger that the BDE waste employers’ federation will end its role in collective bargaining and become just an industry association. Ver.di says that the position of lead negotiator for the BDE has been vacant for several months and the current president of the organisation is from Alba, a company that doesn’t apply the industry agreement. The union also points out that more and more companies in the sector are leaving the industry agreement and it challenges the BDE to stand up for fair pay and conditions in the sector.

Unions express concern over performance-related pay

The French government has announced plans for a significant extension of performance-related pay (PRP) across the civil service. At the moment only a small group of senior civil service has a PRP element in their salary. New arrangements will cover around 21,600 civil servants next year and by 2012 nearly 200,000 will have a PRP as part of their pay. The additional payment will be made up by a job-related premium (60%) set by each ministry while the remaining 40% will be entirely related to the individual’s performance. Confederations express concern over labour law proposals

(June 2017) The three main confederations have expressed their concern over some of the elements of the new government's proposals for reforming labour law. The details won't be published until the end of June but already the unions have raised issues with plans to rebalance collective bargaiing towards the company level, reform workplace representation and reduce compensation for redundancy. They argue that they see little in the proposals to benefit workers and remain unconvinced that reducing employment protection will boost job creation. A process of consultation is planned for the summer

Unions express concern over government's working time initiative

Finland

The JHL public services union and the SAK confederation have raised concerns about the government's approach to working time and possible changes to working time legislation. A government working group has come up with proposals that would allow for more local flexibility on working time while failing to put forward any concrete plans to regulate zero-hours contracts which currently affect 80000 workers in Finland. The unions argue that the proposals are more about flexibiity for employers than workers and that all workers should have a guaranteed minimum number of hours in their contracts.
